Fripp Island is designated as a Wildlife Sanctuary. Fripp Island is an excellent place to view many different types of wildlife up close and personal. If it's wildlife you like, then Fripp Island has it all. If it's bird watching you?re into, then you could spend your entire visit doing just that.
Being a wildlife preserve, Fripp Island is home to a number of species of birds: Chickadees, White Ibis, Sandpipers, Brown Pelicans, Great Egrets, Oyster Catchers, Screech Owls, Painted Buntings, Dunlins, and Great Blue Herons to name a few. Also, deer freely roam the island.
Fripp Island is even home to a number of alligators that hang out in a few of the quiet lagoons. They are very tame if left alone. Click the link in the right column of this page to learn more about Living Around Alligators.
Between mid-May and mid-October, huge female loggerhead sea turtles come ashore at night to lay their eggs. Nature programs at the resort are designed to educate guests about these amazing creatures as well as other wildlife indigenous to the island.
